In the context of the 5th edition of the European Commission Summer School in Portugal (Summer CEmp), CIP’s President, António Saraiva, was a speaker in a conversation with the Secretary of State for Internationalisation, Bernardo Ivo Cruz, and the audience, moderated by Rui Pedro Antunes. The session had the theme “Transitions” and took place on 29 August 2022, at the Ribeira Grande Geothermal Power Plant.

To an audience of over 100 people, António Saraiva mentioned that the current context (energy crisis, scarcity of raw materials, increase of interest rates, and inflation, among others) reinforces the need for a double transition – Green and Digital. Additionally, he mentioned the main challenges faced by Portuguese companies and their concerns. Finally, he emphasized the fundamental action of the private sector in the fight against climate change and the need for legislative proposals in these areas to be well-designed to preserve the competitiveness of companies.

This year’s edition of Summer CEmp, from 27 to 30 August 2022, took place in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel, Azores. Summer CEmp is an intensive and dynamic seminar with practical learning formats for a diverse group of higher education students, who have the opportunity to reflect on European priorities and policies. There were 40 young people and more than 100 speakers, mentors, journalists, and guests over the four days.
